Want an illustrator to draw a comic strip based on your NYC photo?
It’s fun and easy. All you have to do is take a snapshot of something interesting (and I mean that in the broadest possible sense) when you’re out and about in the Big Apple.
Doesn’t need to be a professional photo (actually it’s probably best if it’s not) and it doesn’t have to be taken with a fancy camera. A simple point and shoot camera or the camera on your cell phone will do just fine.
Then email your snapshot to TimeOut NY magazine and maybe an illustrator will select it for an upcoming strip. Type “Photo Finish” in the TimeOut NY search engine and you’ll be directed to the rules and the submission link. You’ll also be able to check out some of the previous entries turned comic strip.
Don’t expect any kind of remuneration if your photo is selected … just the satisfaction of seeing your image and name in print. It’ll put a smile on your face. So why not do something with that image that’s been sitting around on your cell phone, taking up valuable memory space.
Whenever I submit a snap shot I wonder what story they might come up with. So far I’ve been lucky, several pics made it to a strip. I got a kick out of the Darth Vader strip so I contacted TimeOut NY to ask for a quality print of the toon; they kindly obliged and I had it framed.
So make sure you read the rules before submitting anything and don’t leave home without your camera, you never know, an “interesting” photo op may be just around the corner.
